Hey cool site. Saw CSC in Chicago a few years ago, and have since gotten everything Tod has written. I think he's probably one of the best all around artists I've encountered in my life. I like the criticisms of our shitty president and shitty religions worldwide, and poor consumer products.

I am a die-hard capitalist possibly categorized as a modified randite / libertarian see: http://www.lp.org . see: http://www.optimal.org BTW: the world is changing quickly and to understand and adapt is key. The optimal site is a good starting point to understanding certain non-aggression universals, as is http://www.fija.org . Perhaps this puts me at odds with Tod, but I don't think so. I think we started off at a similar starting point -socialism, perhaps. I am now working to infiltrate the Republican Party and destroy it by returning it to its constitutional roots, by gaining Ron Paul enough delegates in IL to overcome Ghouliani and Romney-the-haircut's petition challenges. Wish me luck ...it could well be an end to the Bush era. Eventually, I would like to talk with the firewater faction, perhaps have a modified debate. I am almost always able to reconcile emotion with individual rights. I agree that freedom often produces things that are tacky, but it is better to have tacky freedom than well-designed nazi radio sets. JMHO.

This entry had me cracking up. I had Thai exchange students living next to me at one time, and they played this fucking shit that you speak of. I know exactly what the hell you are talking about... and had the same nausiating reaction to it... so I found your musings rather hilarious.

Also, the 'folky' stuff that you were talking about, and the fact that Thai persons refer to it as "country" reminded me of another cultural barrier I once came across. I used to live around the corner from a Bosnian bar in upstate NY... and I used to go there to watch the local Bosnian bands perform there (because they were fucking great... unlike all the goddamn Dave Matthews/Pearl Jam cover bands that seem to inhabit that area) and some of my Bosnian friends made fun of me because I actually liked it. They refered to as "country" as well... and I said "This isn't anything like American 'Country Western' Standards!" They were convinced that bands like Limp Bizkit were fucking gods... and their local bands were shit! Now, to give you an idea of what Bosnian 'country' sounds like... it sounds very similar to your pals Gogol Bordello (but not as hyperactive). It is the same instruments and instrumentation, but with traditional standards, and low key performers. I guess the Bosnian youth were tired of their 'standards' and were really into their new found American crap (just as I was excited to hear traditional melodies I had never been exposed to before). Cultural differences can be fascinating at times...

And speaking of your Gogol Bordello friends... I just saw them tonite in Cleveland, OH. This was my first time seeing them live... and they were unreal! Hütz is quite the showman! Wow! I shot live photos of the gig too. By the way... I shot photos of Firewater the last time you played in Cleveland. We met briefly, and I took some good photos that nite. You and the rest of the band were very nice and accomodating (IE letting me in the back area where you guys were hanging out wherein I just shot random photos whilst you guys did your own thing... I never had a chance to thank you for your cooperation (and the fact you and the band didn't treat me like an asshole, like some other bands have). For the record... that Firewater show was fucking great.

Hope you're doing well over there...
